ABOUT
OUR INN
The
Inn by the Bandstand is a
federal style townhouse built in 1809 that is listed in the National
Registry of Historic Places. The home was built for George
Sullivan, a
lawyer who was twice New Hampshire
state attorney general, a state representative and served as a member
of Congress. His father was General John Sullivan, of Bunker
Hill fame.
Many of the original features of the home survive,
including ten working fireplaces, beautiful high ceilings with crown
moldings, wide plank wood floors in many of the rooms and a wonderful
curved banister rising
up to the third floor. During the middle 1800's, the home was used as
the Squamscott Hotel.
By 1899 the home was purchased by Otis H. Sleeper for use as his
private residence. He was jeweler and around 1910 the shop that is next
door was built to house his business. Today, the shop is home to our
shop
"Portobello Road" where you will find a wonderful selection of
gifts, locally made products and antiques.

Upon arrival, you
will be warmly greeted and shown
through the house which is yours to enjoy. The common areas are
appointed with antiques, period furnishings, fireplaces,
and original 18th and 19th century artwork. The living room, with its
fireplace,
wingback chairs, and antique furnishings is the perfect place to enjoy
a hot cup of tea
and relax.

The adjoining dining room is
decorated with a blend of
contemporary furnishings and antiques. This is where
your delicious full breakfast is served. You can read the morning
newspaper or converse with fellow guests from around the world. We
serve orange juice, the finest teas, Green Mountain coffee, fresh fruit
accompanied by one of our hot home-baked muffins, croissants, or
cinnamon rolls. Our menu selections include: stuffed French toast and
raspberry sauce, Belgian waffles with strawberries, pancakes with fresh
blueberries, apples or bananas, California egg soufflé,
vegetable quiche, or egg casserole to name a few. Morning newspapers
are provided for your enjoyment. There is complimentary port wine
and carafes of spring water in each guest room and a variety of teas,
coffee, mulled cider and hot chocolate are always available at the
"Coffee Bar" throughout the day and evening.

For those who must leave early and can’t join
us for breakfast, a continental breakfast is available. You can have
your choice of bagels, English muffins, and a variety of cereals.
Coffee, tea and orange juice is also available. Please let your
innkeeper know of your plans for breakfast upon arrival so we can make
the appropriate arrangements.

We are always pleased to
accommodate dietary
restrictions with advanced notice.
